Unmissable Barcolana: Trieste, Sunday 12th October 2014

24/09/2014 18:39

Once again all together on board of a sailing boat

Every year my friends ask me: are you going to participate this year again? Yes, I can not give up! This Regatta is a ritual, a finishing line at the end of the season.

The Barcolana is not restricted to Sunday 12th of October: it has a "before" and a "after".

The "before" is made of different preparations:

putting together a team, made of friends with whom to share emotions
emptying the boat certainly to lighten it, but also to find the space needed to a rich galley stocked with wine, salami and cheese
studying the route but knowing very well that, among 2000 racing boats, the strategy will fade out.

The "after"is to look the final ranking and think that our race could be better, to share with friends hundreds of photos, similar to those of last year but unique every time, to wait for the next Barcolana.

How it performs? Events at sea and events on land

Barcolana is first af all a sailing festival open to everybody: professional teams racing on maxi yachts and sailors, proud of their old boat six metres long.

Triestine people , very fond and skilful of sea and wind, but also sailors from abroad will enjoy this event lasting one week.
From 4th to 12th of October, Trieste will be the European Capital of sailing and everything that revolves around the sea.

Unmissable the visit to "Barcolana Village", the sea front space that hosts merchandising stands with products of the sailing world and food and wine stands where to taste products of the Italian cuisine.

Trieste Rive give hospitality to the best racing yachts that, like "prima donna", wait to be admired.

Saturday night, a spectacular concert will liven up Trieste and its Gulf.

This year, for the first time, the Organizers designed a new course closer to the coast, to allow thousands of spectators on land to enjoy the Barcolana Regatta: boats will sail toward "Miramare Castle" and will cut the finishing line in the city centre, just off Piazza Unit√† d'Italia.

What to say more? I could go on for hours and describe this event!!

I show you some pictures of Barcolana and I give you appointment next month to the photo-gallery of 2014 Regatta.

See you soon!
